Intern Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00-5:00, 40 hours per week


Dates of Internship: May 2018 - August 2018, potential for part time through school year


This is a Summer Engineering Internship program for our Northern Nevada division. We are looking for smart, enthusiastic and self-motivated engineering students that have good communication skills, critical thinking skills, are well organized, are detail-oriented and can work independently in a fast-paced environment.


Southwest Gas Engineering designs and maintains distribution natural gas facilities for various customers. At SWG, interns are assigned responsibilities that range from pipeline facility design to facility research and report writing to field visits. SWG provides interns real world engineering experience to help them determine which area of engineering is the right fit for them.



Interns can expect to gain the following from this Internship:


  • Work with an existing team of Engineers and Engineering Technicians
  • Complete design work based on specific design criteria
  • Attend field visits to show different construction practices to aide in design
  • Complete research that will help build a foundation for future projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • Intern candidate must be an actively enrolled student at an accredited college and/or university.
  • Candidates must be in at least their sophomore year and must be majoring in fields related to the Company.
  • Commit to interning for a minimum of ten (10) weeks and a 40-hour work week for the summer program.
  • Internship positions are filled through our staffing partner; Interns are not direct employees of Southwest Gas.
  • Additionally, candidates must meet the following criteria:
    • Cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0
    • Most recent semester/quarter GPA greater than or equal to 3.0
    • Unofficial transcript submittal is required


In addition to the minimum qualifications, our Engineering Intern Candidate must meet the following:


  • Currently enrolled in an engineering degree program
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn technical knowledge quickly
  • Self-motivated
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective time management
  • Exhibits leadership qualities
