    Description of Internship Opportunity

    Work experience opportunities are customized for students who want to gain industry experience. The successful candidate will be employed through a pipeline contractor while working on a Southwest Gas construction crew, gaining exposure to natural gas operations and maintenance while learning industry safety standards and procedures. Students are required to continue taking classes towards an Associate of Applied Science Degree or other educational paths to further their pathways in a career in natural gas.

     

    Intern Work Schedule:  6:30 a.m- 3:00 p.m./Summer Hours; 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m./ Fall Hours

     

    Dates of Internship: Starts January 2019

     

    Location Information: Tucson, Arizona

    Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will work on a Southwest Gas Construction crew, gaining exposure to natural gas operations and maintenance while learning industry safety standards and procedures.  Students are encouraged to continue taking classes towards a Associate of Applied Science Degree or other educational paths to further their pathways in a career in natural gas.

    Interns can expect to gain the following from this Internship:

    • Exposure to the natural gas industry
    • Hands-on experience in a labor entry position
    • Potential for advanced training opportunities (CDL, Pipe Joining, Fire Safety, Competent Person, Emergency Response, Line Locating, Leak Survey)
    • Opportunities to apply for regular full-time positions with SWG or contactors

     

    Minimum Qualifications

     

    Internship Qualifications:

    • Self-starter

    • Work well on teams

    • Ability to work outside under extreme weather conditions

    • Desire to learn and adhere to industry safety standards and procedures

    • Conform to a culture of safety and reliability

    • Additionally, candidates must meet the following criteria:

     

    In addition to the Internship Qualifications, our Internship requires the following:

     

    • Successful completion of PCC’s course, Introduction to the Natural Gas Industry (ICT 101) and Pipefitter(ICT103)
    • Continued enrollment at PCC
    • PCC program-specific grade point average of 3.0 or higher
    • At least 18 years old
    • Maintain a valid Arizona driver’s and CDL license as condition of employment
    • Obtain CDL within six (6) months of hire date as a condition of your employment
    • Complete physical examination which includes drug screening
    • Background check
    • Successful completion of required training

     

    Salary Details

    $16.00 per hour
